I've run iwconfig and this is the output: Not knowing exactly what to do first, second Gateway MX6440 Broadcom WLAN so on, it would be nice to have a list telling what commands could be used to provide information as to whether or not the card is recognized by the system, and then a list of commands that would display information telling that everything is installed completely and Gateway MX6440 Broadcom WLAN.

A major cause of reluctance to try Linux is often pointed out to be the learning curve, and from what I have seen, it is not due to the unavailability of information, but instead the huge abundance of information which can quickly overwhelm someone who is new to Linux.
We have spent many hours googling for info and have found so much, and often so many different paths of solving the same problem that we don't know which to follow and what we should do when we find a solution doesn't solve our problem. And I must add that I want very much to eliminate my dependency on MS Windows so we are trying very hard to learn all we can about Linux. Thanks to those who have offered suggestions to Gateway MX6440 Broadcom WLAN, and we will keep plugging along until we resolve all our problems with your kind assistance.
Joe Northern Thailand October 19th, Are there 2 methods of installing a wireless LAN card in Ubuntu? From what all I have been reading it appears that one method is a Linux method and the other uses something called ndiswrapper which if I understand properly, is a program which acts as a go between allowing Linux systems to Gateway MX6440 Broadcom WLAN with a Windows driver.
Drivers & Downloads
I therefore assume that using ndiswrapper should be a second choice solution to be used when all else fails? An email to Broadcom led me to believe that they only produce the chip used Gateway MX6440 Broadcom WLAN the wireless card and someone else produces the card and therefore they provide no direct end user support. Compaq, the producer of the notebook we are using recommends Windows OS, and should you wish to purchase a notebook to run Linux, suggest you purchase a particular model which they provide with a Linux SUSE OS installed.
I did not notice any other name on the card to indicate who manufactures it Gateway MX6440 Broadcom WLAN I don't know who else to email with questions.
Bob Mikok October 20th, I got tired of windows and jumped right into Linux without ever looking back. Thank you for creating this thread!!!
